The Department of Languages and Literatures at the University of Basel (English Seminar) invites applications for two fully funded PhD positions (100%, four years) within the SNSF Starting Grant project LINC – The Long-Term Impact of Study Abroad on Linguistic Proficiency, Intercultural Competence, and Plurilingualism, led by Dr. Zeynep Köylü.

The project

The SNSF-funded LINC project investigates the short- and long-term impact of study abroad on second language proficiency, intercultural competence, and plurilingualism. Adopting a longitudinal, mixed-methods perspective, the project follows Swiss pre-service teachers before, during, immediately after, and up to several years following their study-abroad experiences. The project brings together perspectives from Second Language Acquisition (SLA), study abroad and international mobility research, intercultural competence, and multilingualism/plurilingualism. Particular attention is paid to individual developmental trajectories, the interaction between linguistic and non-linguistic dimensions of development, and the extent to which study-abroad experiences transfer to participants' subsequent academic, professional, and personal lives.
LINC will collect and analyse a rich longitudinal dataset combining language proficiency measures, questionnaires, repeated measures, weekly diaries, interviews, and other qualitative and quantitative data. The project therefore offers an excellent environment for doctoral researchers interested in longitudinal and mixed-methods approaches to language learning and mobility.

Die Bibliothek des Slavischen Seminars der Universität Basel ist eine Seminarbibliothek mit über 40'000 Bänden. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf – vorwiegend originalsprachlichen – Werken zu Sprache, Literatur, Film, Theater und Kultur. Sprachlich konzentriert sich die Sammlung vor allem auf Bosnisch, Kroatisch, Montenegrinisch, Serbisch, sowie Polnisch, Russisch, Tschechisch, und Ukrainisch. Die Bestände der Seminarbibliothek werden ergänzt durch die Sammlung Lieb der UB Basel, die etwa 14'000 Rara vor allem aus dem Bereich der russischen Theologie und Philosophie umfasst. 

Katalogisiert wird im Bibliotheksverwaltungssystem Alma nach den Katalogisierungsregeln der RDA (Ressource Description and Access) und der GND (Gemeinsame Normdatei).

An der Philosophisch-Historischen Fakultät der Universität Basel ist zum 1. August 2027 oder nach Vereinbarung eine Professur für Iberoromanische und Allgemeine Literaturwissenschaft (75%, open rank) zu besetzen.
 
Entsprechend der Qualifikation der zu berufenden Person wird die Professur als Tenure Track Assistant Professor (TTAP), als Associate Professor oder als Full Professor besetzt.

A Professorship in Ibero-Romance and General Literature (open rank, 75%) is to be filled at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Basel beginning on August 1, 2027, or by appointment with the successful applicant.

Depending on the qualifications of the person to be appointed, the appointment will be made at the level of Tenure Track Assistant Professor (TTAP), Associate Professor or Full Professor.
