Englisches Seminar, Grosser Hörsaal
This guest lecture explores how English language educators construct professional identities and pedagogical authority through influencer-led teaching on social media. Drawing on recent research on language teacher influencers, it examines how teachers use social media platforms to blend education, entertainment, and personal branding. The seminar situates influencer-led teaching within theories of influencer culture, microcelebrity, and multimodal discourse, framing social media as a key site of English learning and teaching “in the digital wild.” Participants will engage with examples from YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram to analyse how authenticity, expertise, and affect are performed through language and visuals. Through short analytical tasks and discussion, the seminar aims to stimulate reflection on the pedagogical, ethical, and professional implications of teaching English as an influencer.
