HPSL Workshop Series

Advancing theory of practice: on research methods in applied linguistics I

The Departement of Eglish invites you to attend this upcoming workshop. Informed by a visit and guest lecture of Stephanie Schnurr, Associate Professor at the Centre for Applied Linguistics, University of Warwick (UK); the workshop seeks to bring together researchers working in linguistics in applied and organisational contexts. It provides space for an in-depth discussion of methodological challenges that arise in academic research of real-life contexts, but also serves to get to know Stephanie Schnurr as a researcher and engage with her work in interactional sociolinguistics. Inputs on ongoing research at the University of Basel, University of Bern and the University of Warwick – including perspectives from a range of contexts in different countries at different stages of the process of data collection and analysis - will inform guided discussions sessions on the day. Hereby, participants will discuss and address three central themes: 1) navigating methodological challenges; 2) considering participant’s perspectives and terminology in research and 3) conceptual, theoretical implications.

Please see the programme for further information.

If you wish to attend please send an email by November 13th 2019 to Joelle Loew and include your affiliation and a sentence on your current research. The workshop is open to PhD researchers in the first instance; if not all places are filled MA students are welcome as well.
