Disruptions of Rituals in Family Drama
We live 'rituals' every day. From the sacred to the secular to mundane everyday tasks, rituals maintain social order and create a sense of community. This lecture will explore how the disruption of rituals in theatre serves to create dynamic dramatic structures. From Antigone to contemporary theatre, the disruption of rituals provokes the breakdown of social order, pushes characters to their limits, and at times, leads to the creation of new paradigms of being.
