Sightseeing London Through the Centuries

"Sightseeing London Through the Centuries" is a new interactive resource that brings early modern London to life. The historical maps were developed by Stefanie Heeg (PhD student, SwissBritNet).
Sightseeing London Through the Centuries, a new interactive resource that brings early modern London to life through the eyes of three selected Swiss travellers from 1599, 1697, and 1727. From heads on spikes and public executions to lost luggage, the experience of visiting London has changed considerably over the centuries.
As part of her PhD project, Stefanie Heeg has created three historical maps that allow you to explore how the city evolved and what travellers considered must-see sights. Their firsthand accounts offer a fascinating—sometimes gruesome—insight into London’s landmarks, culture, and daily life.
