SHOW QUESTION
What are the rules for choosing a means of transportation for a conference trip?

Upon request, the Doctoral Program in Literary Studies may cover the cost of a trip to a conference or an archive by public transportation. We ask that applicants book travel early to take advantage of savings offers.

As a general rule, the Doctoral Program will only cover the cost of air travel if the trip by train takes 8 hours or more.

In rare cases, a destination may be poorly served, and traveling by private vehicle may save a lot of time. In these cases, the Doctoral Program may pay a subsidy toward the trip; however, it will only cover the cost of a comparable trip by public transportation. The Doctoral Program does not pay for rental cars and mileage allowances.

The University of Basel is committed to reducing its CO2 emissions. On the topic of air travel, we recommend reading this website.
